Make a Booking

Obviously, we may be biased here at DV Dental, but we cannot stress how important it is to regularly visit your dentist. Like a minor car service, your teeth need to be routinely checked to make sure they are mechanically sound and functioning as they should.

How often have you found yourself on the dentist’s-chair-end of a filling, asking yourself the question “why didn’t I get my teeth checked sooner?” Do not fear, you’re not alone, we’ve all been there at some point, but if you’re a parent, a loved one, or just care about the health of your teeth (and keeping them!), maybe it’s time you considered a trip to your dentist?

How Regular is Regular?

We understand everyone has different teeth. Young, old, parents, children, dentists, smokers – the variances are endless. There are those with mouths of defiance, unspoilt by fillings or ill-health. And then there are those who are unfortunately prone to the odd dental disaster.

Whether you’re one of these categories, a mixture, or none at all, we recommend visiting your dentist every six months – even if your teeth are feeling fine and healthy. And in-between those six months, a regimented routine of good dental health practices are highly recommended.

Why six months? Most major dental and health associations/bodies believe six months is the ideal time frame to identify and prevent oral ill-health from developing. Six months allows dentists to retain your oral health or spot and treat any abnormalities, helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums for the six months ahead.

But as all teeth are not the same, there are certain groups of people who must visit their dentist often…

Should My Child See a Dentist Often?

Yes. Children’s teeth develop at a rapid rate. Whether it is their baby teeth, or their adult teeth, regular visitations to the dentist will educate children on the importance of oral hygiene, instruct teeth cleaning and good dental practices, will identify and treat any oral health problems early, and will ensure healthy development of their teeth, gums and mouth.

Familiarising children with the dentist is a great way to teach kids the importance of oral hygiene and health, and ease them into the positive aspects of a trip to their local dental clinic.

As a leading dental surgery in Perth, DV Dental places great emphasis on a child’s wellbeing and oral health. With a bright and welcoming practice and warm and friendly staff, we pride ourselves on our industry-renowned clinical standards and inclusive, private and compassionate care. Our reputation for excellence has solidified our standing as the children’s dentist in Perth.

What Should I Expect at My Visit?

A visit to DV Dental often begins in the waiting room. As such, we wish to make your visit as pleasant and welcoming as possible. Our waiting room is designed for comfort and ease of mind, with a range of reading materials and children’s toys available.

If you’re visiting for the first time, one of our experienced practice consultants will ask you to fill in a few introductory forms – including any private health insurance benefits you may wish to claim.

Once in our practice rooms, an experienced hygienist will clean your teeth and advise on any cleaning tips for good oral hygiene at home. During your professional clean, our hygienist will check the cleanliness of your teeth and gums, polish your teeth, floss your teeth, and review your brushing and flossing techniques.

A dentist will inspect your teeth, gums, mouth, and any x-rays that may be taken in your appointment. It is common for a dentist to check your neck, face, bite, saliva and mouth for any abnormalities. After all initial checks, a dentist will clean your teeth, paying special attention to plaque and tartar build up – as they can build quickly between visits. Teeth may also be cleaned to remove stains caused by food, drink and tobacco.

Upon completion of your appointment, a dentist will advise you whether a follow up appointment is necessary before the recommended six month check-up.

It is important to visit your dentist every six months to maintain optimal oral hygiene for yourself and your family. Dental visits should be friendly and relieving affairs, so as a leading adult and kids dentist in Perth, we go out of our way to ensure you receive the most comfortable, professional service upon your visit.
