Crowns

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a cap specially designed to be placed over an existing tooth, completely covering it, restoring its shape, size, strength and general appearance. At Duncraig Village Dental 90% of our crowns can be provided in one visit with our state-of-the-art CEREC Cad-Cam system.

Our dental crown and bridge services sometimes require more than one visit. The first visit is used to scan and examine the areas of the mouth that require the procedures. This information is then used to create highly realistic natural looking crowns and/or bridges to suit your mouth, which can be permanently attached at your next visit.

FAQs

When are dental crowns needed?

Dental crowns can be needed as a solution in a number of different situations:

  • To cover/finalise a dental implant procedure

  • To protect a weak or damaged tooth from further harm

  • To hold together a previously cracked tooth

  • To restore an unsightly tooth which may be worn down or decayed

  • To cover over a misshaped or discoloured tooth

How long does a dental crown last?

The life of a dental crown is dependant on your oral habits and hygiene, but generally speaking, our dental crowns can last up to 15 years.

What special care is required with dental crowns?

A dental crown doesn’t require any special care, however it is important to remember that the tooth underneath a dental crown is still open to decay, so general oral hygiene practices should still be upheld.
